Mornings. The sleep is still in your eyes, you are up but not yet running on all cylinders. You want something practical to get you going. Perhaps even to to cleanse and do a little mild detox? And certainly, boosting your metabolism would be an added treat. Enter this juice. The fact that our little Apprentice begs to to sip the green stuff is pretty freaking awesome. I think its the straw and the glass mug with the handle. Recently we posted a pic of this juice on our FB Page and Instagram and so many of you requested a recipe. So, we can definitely say that this recipe is being shared based on your popular feedback! We encourage you to join us on our social media channels and tell us what you will like us to do on the blog or even videos to create for our YouTube channel.
As children of the tropics, we Caribbean nationals have always been used to making our own juices. There is a juice and a plant based tonic for every ailment especially if you happen to have a granny or grandpa from the country. While most juices are made for their taste, there are some made for healing, rejuvenating or medicinal purposes. The ones made for taste are often sweetened with the cane sugar or molasses we produce in our countries, but the ones for healing or medicinal purposes, tend to have a taste that makes you just jump and your eyes pop open. This particular juice can be made both ways. We make it without any sugar or sweet fruits but if you are new to juicing or taste is a huge deal for you, there is a substitution built into the recipe.
This recipe came from Chef Lij, who likes to drink it before service at night. He is also pretty big on creating tasty juices (even the healing/medicinal ones). I’m not.
I have added cucumbers to his original recipe for their wonderful diuretic properties as I am facing the challenge of water retention and that ish has just got to go! Since many do not have access to a juicer, we have made this recipe for a blender. If you do have a juicer, simply use it and squeeze the lemon at the end and top up with the water.
- 1 cucumber, cubed
- 1/2 lemon
- 1/2 inch ginger, peeled
- 1 handful fresh parsley leaves
- 1 cup water ( I prefer cold but room temperature is fine)
- Chop cucumber into big chunks
- Slice ginger into two pieces
- Put cucumber, ginger, and parsley, and water in blender
- Squeeze lemon
- Blend until pulp is very fine.
- Pour into a glass and drink.
- Option 2: Strain the juice before drinking if you hate pulp.
- Option 3: Add a green apple to the juice for sweetness

Love your blog! My husband and I have both gone the LCHF way and it works for us! Do you have an idea for making a kale shake better without the carbs? i.e. no fruit!
I also have ideas and recipes we have made up to make our journey more pleasant which I could share with you if you like?
Hope to hear from you!
Warmest regards
Gertrude
