As parents of a toddler, there are so many landmarks in our journey with our son. Recently, after homeschooling him all year since we moved to Aruba, we enrolled him in Dutch school. One morning, Chef Lij took me out for a surprising date-breakfast at the Ritz Carlton Aruba. It was the perfect way to spend my new-found freedom and for us to actually do something together long before we solved our lack of babysitter woes. We have had so many family dates this year that it was great to be a twosome for a couple hours and savour our coffee without minding the manners and diet of a little person. Here is how it went down.
Breakfast at the Ritz Carlton Aruba
As you are aware, we went on a school day. As Aruba’s tourists are usually weekenders flying in from the North, weekends are usually busier than weekdays in most hotels and restaurants. It was also low season. Coming from living in the United Arab Emirates where sensational buffets with caviar and lobster and shrimp and free flowing champagne are a thing, we must say that life -and buffets- in the Caribbean is a LOT simpler. In fairness, again, it was a weekday buffet during low season and unless you are the Burj Al Arab, putting out a lot of food when there is low demand is a recipe for financial disaster. Caribbean hoteliers generally have less variety on offer and smaller portions on display. There is still enough to go around and keep you busy for a lovely leisurely breakfast any day of the week. what we are most impressed about was that the buffet went all the way until 12 noon. Now how is that for bliss?
Fresh waffles, eggs and pancakes are always a treat- served until midday, there are a decadent delight!

Though we went without our little one, the venue is perfect for kids and there are lots of things to impress even the pickiest tiny eaters among us.
Breakfast at the Ritz Carlton Aruba
It is worthy to note that in addition to the buffet, there is an a la carte menu which has pretty much the same fare, except for things like the local Aruban specialty, Pastechis added, as well as brioche French toast and a selection of egg dishes including Eggs Benedict. You can view the a la carte menu here.

Mmmm, you’re making Aruba look pretty good. That’s a lovely buffet even if it’s simpler than what you were used to before. The most important thing, I think, is that everything is just delicious!
